The aims and subject

“Discourse & Dialogue” publishes articles from five academic disciplines:

  • Sociological science
  • Communication and media studies
  • Political science and administration
  • Cultural studies
  • Linguistics

It is a semiannual academic journal that addresses social issues and topics relevant to public opinion, engaging people’s emotions in public space activities. The analytical categories and theoretical concepts developed by sociological science, political science and administration, media studies, cultural studies, and linguistics are employed by our authors to create a distinctive and original description of social reality.

The most crucial ground rule governing our journal’s functioning is mutual respect in conversations, regardless of all differences. We value one of the most essential democracy rules, which essentially is about to differ from each other beautifully. We are against divisions in public debate that have been intensifying for over a dozen years. We do not exclude any points of view that are within the limits of the law and good manners. Communication and dialogue are always more constructive than rigid adherence to our beliefs and refusal to consider the perspectives of those with whom we disagree.

Our journal aims to create a platform for sharing thoughts within the academic discourse sphere on topics important to society, both locally and globally. The majority of the published content features in-depth reflections on various social issues, incorporating multiple contexts, empirical data, and arguments for particular solutions in the public domain, which could be helpful for public policy decision-makers.

We are interested in analyses that consider sociological outlooks as well as the analyses of public discourse (including media discourse) and reflections either on the language of the description or the cultural phenomena. A significant part of our attention is directed towards the impact of new technologies on communication, with a particular emphasis on the role of social media in this process.

  • Civic Sociology – this section publishes articles addressing specific social issues and presenting new perspectives on the social questions. We are particularly interested in texts that engage public opinion and well-established, empirically and theoretically grounded articles
  • Media Discourse Analysis – this section examines the state of contemporary mass communication channels, presenting the results of media report analyses. It includes reflections on media texts based on data collected, for example, by volunteers of the INDID MEDIA WATCH program conducted by the Institute of Discourse and Dialogue.
  • Varia – this is a section to the creation of which we invite all those interested in widely understood public debate, modern culture, legal aspects of discourse, business practices based on manipulated messages, intergenerational relationships, the functioning of people of all ages in contemporary society, and the challenges posed by the changing demographic structure. Reviews of the latest releases are also published here.
